Production Muscle Cars
After World War II, the Chrysler 300 letter series in 1955 gave birth to the idea of production muscle cars among American automakers who wanted to manufacture cars with high performance engine but less costly. But instead, the price that came along with the high performance letter series was luxurious and expensive. The series derived its name from its limited number of models, which were manufactured from 1955 to 1965 by Chrysler Corporation in the United States. Every released model used the letter of the alphabet in series as a suffix starting from 300A to 300L which was the last model. The letter "I" was skipped for unclear reason.
The production muscle cars materialized in 1957 when a monster V-8 stuffed into a mid-size Detroit sedan was made available. It was capable of producing 255 hp (190.2 kW) and has a 4-barrel carburetor with an optional fuel injection. It addressed the desire of the American car manufactures to build an inexpensive high performance engine.
Since the first production muscle cars, muscle cars came a long way from a mid-sized Detroit sedan, any four-seater with massive horsepower are now considered as muscle cars regardless if it's a V-6 or manufactured from other countries. It may be American, Australian, South African, and United Kingdom models.
Since the initial production muscle cars, muscle cars manufacturing took a remarkable acceleration. Muscle cars gained pronounced popularity in today’s juvenile generation. They are now a word-of-mouth among young drivers who engaged in drag racing. The muscle cars’ architecture, which is indented for maximum torque, makes it conducive for such high adrenaline sport. Muscle cars share equal proportion of popularity with sport cars, but the latter are more famous for road racing and high-speed touring.
Production muscle cars and drag racing notoriety are very much visible in today’s multimedia, and the films made featuring muscle cars are making a huge success in the box office. Worldwide, specifically, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Caribbean particularly in Aruba, Mexico, Greece, Malta, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavian countries especially Finland and Sweden, there are roughly 325 drag strips operating at any given time.
